Corby's dwellings

In Corby (England) the renewable heat system has been implemented in 26 dwellings or eco-homes. The heat system has been tested across a variety of house types:

  • Apartments

  • Town houses

  • 3-bed houses

  • 4-bed houses

The Corby houses address various issues of new-build houses in the UK by building higher quality, energy efficient homes. The houses has been built using off-site build technology with well-insulated build fabric, built in Priors Hall Park in Corby, Northamptonshire. As a result, the houses will be very representative of the average new houses in the UK. The system has been connected to an independent electrical grid (owned by GTC).

You will find below the final system design explanation.

May - 18

As expected, the work started: the first plot foundations were marked for concrete and Earth Energy Bank (EBB) paving the way for the future ecohomes.

Jan - 19

At the end of December 2018, the drainage and the rear acess road of the block properties have been built, the installation of boreholes for the Earth Energy Bank (EBB) and the foundations for the first 4 homes.

In January 2019, the block and beam flooring are going to be installed in order to erect the panelized wall system. Also, will be made the foundations for the next set of new homes.

The Earth Energy Bank has finally been completed for the first 10 homes, the photovoltaic panels have been fully installed on the first set of homes as well, and the heat pump installation is completed. Data has been collecting since then with the aim to quantify the benefits and savings.

Here you have the links for 3D visual animation of the Corby eco-homes. You can walk around the building and see the Earth Bank installed!

Des - 19

Some steps remain before finishing the construction of the 26 homes! The main challenge encountered is the integration of the heat pump in the existing control system.

The first homes will be inhabited in January. Since then, the actual system operation will be available.

Jul - 20

The actual system operation is already available.
